Friday October 10, 2008
There are days when I feel like the election can't get here soon enough. Fortunately, those of us in Illinois can begin voting on Monday, October 13. That's the Columbus Day holiday. So, if you have the day off, please use it wisely by going to vote. The early voting period runs through Thursday, October 30, 2008 for the November 4, 2008 General Election.

Here's how to vote early if you live in Chicago, suburban Cook County, or one of the collar counties.

Chicago's Adler Planetarium was pulled into last night's debate between Senators Barack Obama (D-IL) and John McCain (R-AZ), and they didn't like what they heard. The Planetarium's response, dated October 8, 2008, can be found here.

Sox Lose - Never Mind that Crazy World Series Talk, Part 2

Monday October 6, 2008
Well, that was fast. No more water cooler talk about whether riots will break out during a crosstown World Series. No need for Cubs fans to plan a run for the Chicago exits because they just couldn't stand being here during a Sox World Series. The Sox lost tonight, 2-6, in Game 4 of the ALDS and smooshed the local baseball season for good. Now Chicagoans have to go back to moping about the economy and wondering if the Bears can keep winning.

IL Voter Registration Deadline is Tuesday, October 7 - Psych - There's a Two-Week Grace Period

Monday October 6, 2008
Officially, you need to get your tardy vote-registering butt down to your local county clerk's office by tomorrow, Tuesday, October 7. Lucky for you, though, the entire state has a two-week registration grace period that runs through Tuesday, October 21, 2008 for the Tuesday, November 4, 2008 general election. Below you can find resources on how to register to vote in Cook County using the grace period. If you live outside of Cook County, you'll need to contact your local county clerk's office to find out how to register during the grace period.
PLEASE NOTE: The grace period article was updated on October 8 to reflect that you can now register at one of six places during the grace period. If you read the article when there was only one place to vote, that is no longer correct.

Cubs Lose - Never Mind That Crazy World Series Talk

Monday October 6, 2008
My colleague, Scott Kendrick, About.com's Guide to Baseball, has the dismal story of the Cubs lousy post-season. He runs it under the apt headline, "Cubs Hibernate Early Again."

We don't have cable right now (long story), so we listened to the games on the radio. I've never heard more hollow "wait til next year" talk than what came out of Ron Santo's mouth right after the Cubs dropped their final game. Can't say I blame him. It's hard to muster enthusiasm about looking forward right now. Condolences to all Cubby fans.
